Privacy on DearSomeone is designed to be understandable. You do not need to read a legal document to know what you can do.

You control the information associated with your account. Most changes take effect immediately; some, such as updating your email address or phone number, may require verification first.

You can update:

• your name and how you appear to others;
• the email address used for sign-in and notifications;
• your phone number, if you have chosen to add one;
• your password and sign-in preferences.

We recommend keeping your account details current so letters and notifications reach you without interruption.

The letters you write belong to you. You can create drafts, return to edit them, and delete drafts or sent letters where the product supports it.

When a letter enters production for printing and delivery, a temporary production copy is created. That copy is used only for fulfillment and is securely destroyed once the letter has been processed.

Future Me letters are held securely until the delivery date you chose. Until then, you remain in control.

You may:

• edit the letter while it is still scheduled;
• reschedule the delivery date;
• delete the letter before it is sent.

If you choose to delete your account, we will ask how you would like Future Me letters handled before the deletion becomes permanent.

DearSomeone is built on a consent-first philosophy. Recipients always decide whether they wish to receive correspondence.

If a recipient declines a letter, delivery does not proceed. The sender is notified only that delivery was not accepted. The recipient’s privacy remains protected, and their reason is not shared.

Your Address Vault holds the postal addresses you use for letter fulfillment. You can add, update, and remove addresses at any time.

Saved addresses are used only to deliver letters. Other users, including senders, cannot see your addresses unless you explicitly choose to share them.

DearSomeone protects accounts and correspondence through a layered approach to security, including encryption, secure authentication, access controls, and monitoring.

No system is perfect, and we do not claim otherwise. We choose sensible safeguards, review them regularly, and respond quickly when issues arise.

Before a letter is printed and delivered, automated systems review its content. This review is narrow and purposeful. It looks only for:

• threats or harmful intent;
• abuse, harassment, or coercion;
• scams or deceptive content;
• illegal content;
• violations of our Community Guidelines.

This process helps protect recipients and the platform. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or building models of your writing style.

You can delete your account at any time. When you start the process, your account enters a 30-day recovery period.

During this period:

• your account is suspended from normal use;
• you may restore it if you change your mind;
• your data remains held so the account can be recovered.

After 30 days, personal information is permanently deleted except where records must be retained by law or for legitimate operational purposes, such as financial records.
